Clarkston Community Center Foundation: A Day of Impact in the Edible Garden

On Saturday, April 25, something simple but meaningful happened at the Clarkston Community Center Foundation. A group of volunteers showed up, rolled up their sleeves, and got to work transforming our edible garden and outdoor space.

This effort was part of a partnership that has been months in the making, led by Rise ‘N’ Reach in collaboration with Rayo Events. What started as a conversation about supporting the Center turned into a hands-on day of service that brought real change to a space used by families, youth, and neighbors every day.

Throughout the day, volunteers worked side by side on several projects. They planted new blueberry bushes that will continue to grow and serve the community for years to come. They refreshed the garden beds with mulch, helping restore the space and make it more welcoming. They also gave the picnic tables a fresh coat of paint, bringing new life to an area where families gather, kids play, and programs take place.

What stood out most wasn’t just the work itself, but the energy behind it. The group came ready to contribute, collaborate, and make something better together. Youth joined in, volunteers moved easily between tasks, and the entire space felt alive with purpose.

By early afternoon, the difference was clear. The garden looked cared for again. The outdoor space felt more inviting. And more importantly, it reflected what happens when people come together with intention.

This day was a reminder that community doesn’t just happen, it’s built. It’s built through partnerships, through time, and through people who are willing to show up.
