Clarkston Is Home Mural Unveiled in Celebration of Community and Culture

Today, the Clarkston Community Center hosted the much-anticipated unveiling of the Clarkston Is Home mural, created by artist Trudy Tran. The colorful new piece now lights up the College Avenue underpass, honoring the city’s cultural diversity and community spirit.

A Shared Celebration

Community members, local artists, and city officials gathered at the Clarkston Community Center for the unveiling celebration. Guests enjoyed light refreshments and conversation before the program began.

The event featured welcoming remarks and short speeches from:

  • Mayor Beverly Burks

  • City Manager Chaquias Miller-Thornton

  • Councilmember Jamie Carroll

  • Commissioners Ted Terry and Jacob Bouie

  • Luay Sami, Executive Director of the Clarkston Community Center

Representatives from Living Walls, City of Clarkston, and Clarkston Community Center. A certificate of appreciation was presented to Trudy Tran in recognition of her work.

A Walk to the Mural

Following the remarks, attendees walked together from the community center to the mural site. The official plaque was unveiled, and guests had the opportunity to view the completed piece in person. Several supporting artists who worked alongside Trudy were present, reinforcing the collaborative effort behind the mural.

Community Connection

The event closed with time for reflection, photos, and conversation. The Clarkston Police Department supported the event by assisting guests and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for all.

The mural unveiling was more than a ceremony, it was a celebration of the people, stories, and cultures that make Clarkston home.
