The Clarkston Community Center will host the unveiling of Clarkston is Home, a vibrant mural designed by artist Trudy Tran, on Saturday, August 2. This celebration marks the completion of a project grounded in community storytelling, cultural pride, and creative collaboration.

Commissioned through a partnership between the City of Clarkston, Living Walls, Dekalb County District 4 and District 6 Commissioners, and the Clarkston Community Center, the mural transforms the College Avenue underpass into a bold and welcoming gateway into the city.

A Mural Rooted in Community

Trudy Tran’s creative process began with listening. Through community walks, conversations, and shared stories, Clarkston residents offered insights into what makes their city feel like home. These voices directly shaped the mural’s imagery, from traditional clothing and local cuisine to depictions of resilience, migration, and joyful everyday life.

A Collective Effort

The success of this project reflects a strong spirit of collaboration between civic partners and local residents. The mural highlights Clarkston’s cultural richness with symbols that honor local traditions, nature, and the city’s many spoken languages. Its colorful, expressive style is both a celebration and an invitation, to pause, connect, and feel seen.

What’s Next?

Now complete, the mural stands as a visual landmark and a reminder of what’s possible when community and creativity come together. The Clarkston Community Center remains committed to uplifting stories like this through ongoing programs in arts, culture, and connection.
